Ibrox Noise did a piece some weeks ago about the players who quite simply don’t get used half as much as the rest.
As you can see, there’s a core of 12 players who get selected almost exclusively, while the rest play a stunning amount less.
It’s not really that different to Steven Gerrard’s favouritism if we’re honest, which attracts no criticism when things go well, but tonnes when they don’t.
There are a glut of players who are completely on the periphery, and while the logical conclusion is they’re not good enough, well, neither now are the regulars and why is it not worth our while giving the fringe boys another shout?
Amad Diallo, Scott Wright, Cedric Itten, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun, Borna Barisic, Steven Davis, Aaron Ramsey, Mateus Zukowski, James Sands, Robby McCrorie, Fashion Sakala and Kemar Roofe not to mention Leon King, Nnambi Ofoborh and Alex Lowry are all very much on the outside these days.
Sure, some of these can be explained via injury, but there are quite simply a lot of decisions we can rightly question in here.
1: Why was Helander omitted from the UEL squad?
2: Where is Nnambi Ofoborh?
3: Why is Ramsey completely underused?
4: Why can’t Scott Arfield get a rest?
5: Is it time for 3-5-2?
6: Why on earth was Niko Katic not recalled?
7: Cedric Itten.
8: What on earth has happened to Diallo?
It’s just a whole bunch of questions, questions like those we asked about Steven Gerrard.
We begin to wonder just how much the manager at Rangers actually gets control of within this club, because there’s a lot of repeating errors and favouritism regardless of who the boss is.
Ross Wilson? The board?
No idea, your guess is as good as ours.
We’ll follow follow on as always, but it doesn’t mean we won’t ask the questions.
What we’re getting at really is will we see changes at last, real changes to try something new, or are we just going to stumble on with the same players.
Time will tell….
