The weekend’s result at Dingwall didn’t go Rangers’ way, and now with just four matches remaining, it now appears Giovanni van Bronckhorst is going to throw everything into the Europa League.

Rangers fielded a second-string side in Fir Park, still a strong lineup but nowhere near Rangers’ best, indicating strongly that the manager plans to hurl all team assets into Thursday’s titanic clash in Germany.

Sacrificing the league?

Many fans have already decided it’s gone, and with just 12 more points to grab, overcoming an effective 7 point deficit will be hard to do.

We have not given up on the league – Helicopter Sunday shows what can happen if we beat Celtic this weekend and leave them only 3 ahead with 3 to play.

But we do admit prioritising the Cup Final and Europa League now seems wise.

We have a strong enough squad to produce results in the league even with a ‘lesser’ XI, and we need our manpower in Leipzig.

One poster suggested Thursday’s result itself could dictate the approach for Sunday. Win or get a good result out there, and Gio may well consider Sunday slightly less important in preparation for the home leg. Lose badly and possibly we’ll put more into Sunday. Maybe.

But what is for sure is Rangers are in a great position Europe-wise and overcoming Leipzig is completely possible.

It will be hard. We’re missing so many of our key players, but the Germans’ form isn’t great at the moment so both sides have frailties.

But Rangers, with that lesser XI on Saturday coupled with Celtic’s win on Sunday, may now be putting the league on lower priority to maximise return on the two cups.

GVB has some decisions to make.
