We’re not at all surprised by the stories linking rising star Alex Lowry with a move to Newcastle.

From what we know, it’s agent talk, trying to get him a bigger payday than the reported £5,000 he’s been offered by Rangers, because best we know, he has no desire whatsoever to leave.

Football Insider are good at this – finding speculative player situations and bringing in a dramatic story to feed the existing narrative and create drama.

Newcastle are a great source for fictional stories – with new owners, they have big, big money. We already know that with the Saudi takeover they became the wealthiest club in the world overnight, so they will be expecting big things in the next transfer window.

But they’re great for agents to plant a story about their client, because they have the money.

It means the player can get a better deal from his existing club, and the agent gets a nice shiny cut of that.

Is Lowry going? Like any good player, he’ll have interest down south – but we really cannot see why a kid who’s barely played more than a couple of matches in the Scottish cup and one in the league would be a lucrative addition for Newcastle.

But that said? Rangers should increase the offer a bit…
