Rangers have confirmed withdrawal of the Stavros Invitational much to the relief of supporters worldwide, after absolute derision of the original decision to take part.

The club said:

“Rangers can confirm the Club will not be participating in the Sydney Super Cup in November 2022. After it became clear the tournament organisers were unwilling to fulfil their commitments to Rangers, we have, with immediate effect, terminated the Club’s agreement with the organisers.”

This was a claim about copyright, patent and use of the Old Firm, and seemingly the threat of Celtic withdrawing themselves over the use of the same term.

Rangers are now suggesting that the organisers made a hash of this, which in fairness they did, and the whole debacle is finally done.

Rangers are no longer playing a sham friendly to celebrate the life and works of Stavros.

Only took a few weeks…
