BT Sport loses the plot over Rangers

BT Sport today absolutely lost it over Rangers, as the sports channel previewed the upcoming quarter final draw.

European football expert James Horncastle, ex-Chelsea star Joe Cole and former City and Bayern UCL champion Owen Hargreaves were on punditry duties as the draw closed in, and all three praised Rangers as stunning, brilliant and all other superlatives.

First up was Horncastle, who was impressed by how tactically astute GVB had been, how well Rangers managed games and how we knew how to organise for them. And how convincing we’d been against the mighty Dortmund.

Then Hargreaves added in borderline surprise how ‘actually, Rangers are really good’, regaling how impressed he was with the football we’d played. No anti-football here, folks.

And last but not least Cole, who came up to Ibrox for a friendly some years ago and said there wasn’t a stadium like it, that the atmosphere was incredible, and no one would want to face us.

There was special mention from presenter Lynsey Hipgrave for ’40-year old Allan McGregor’ who was on the receiving end of warm praise from all four, with his ability only compounded by his astonishing age.

And overall, the entire preview loved-up Rangers to an almost embarrassing degree, and it was excellent to witness the English media, which are usually very patronising about us, showing sincerity and praise for our achievement.

BT’s loss of Scottish football to the appalling Sky was a sacrilege, their quality of coverage absolutely excellent with mostly great pundits and very good presentation. So seeing their English contingent bigging Rangers up to the level we’ve earned was extremely welcome indeed.

More please.

  1. It was a stark contrast to the highlights programme where West Ham was regailed and lampooned over by Hargreaves and the wretch that is Sutton . Rangers came next and Hargreaves was generous , Sutton looked like he needed a bucket to spew in. He is a horrible twat.

  2. I saw that and it was great to hear the praise coming our way. What I did find embarrassing last night was the reaction to West Ham reaching the last 8. This is a top 6 (maybe even top 4) EPL club and one of the richest clubs in the world and they celebrated like they had just won the Champions League.
