PL CL hopefuls West Ham are said to be monitoring Rangers’ left back Calvin Bassey, with the phrase ‘keeping tabs’ heavily used.
The top four team, a revelation this season under David Moyes, are a distance off Chelsea but facing Man Utd for that fourth CL slot, and look to strengthen further this summer, if they can shed the Kurt Zouma scandal currently engulfing them.
The Londoners would have to spend a few quid on the ex-Leicester man, with his contract running another two years, and his place at Ibrox is not entirely assured, with first choice LB Borna Barisic’s form too poor for current consideration while CB is not the 22-year old’s favourite position at all.
This is an area of the pitch Ibrox Noise suggested only a few days ago was a spot problematic, in that neither Bassey nor Barisic feels like a truly assured and permanent solution for the berth right now.
And West Ham are considering the Nigeria fringe international for a summer addition.
Is he good enough for the PL?
Better people than us can answer that one, but as CB his positional sense is naïve and he’s more than capable of bad errors, while at LB he struggles for crossing.
He is still young though with plenty of development to come – he is strong physically at CB and imposing, while athletic at LB and provides solid width.
His market value is hard to say at present, but improvement is still ahead of him and his stock will rise.
Whether that will be with Rangers or a PL side time will tell.
Hard to see this. Bassey has some raw talent at left back but has a lot that he needs to work on before he gets to our level never mind top 6 of EPL.
