Media try to stir at Ibrox with major PL claim

The Scottish press are at it again with a negative Rangers story on the morning of a colossal match against third-placed Hearts.

Having taken a bit of a whack on Wednesday, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men are determined to bounce back today in a match which won’t be a whole heck of a lot easier than midweek was, but to aid them on their way, various red tops are claiming PL sides are looking at Joe Aribo for £10M.

Where do we even begin with this?

First off, with Nathan Patterson’s sale, all Rangers players’ prices rose. If a fringe players earned us £16M, a first team starter and marquee asset is going to go for a lot more. As we suggested in a previous entry, could Aribo, given his importance to the team, be worth in excess of £30M?

But more tellingly, this is the day Rangers desperately need to bounce back, without distractions, so why not produce a big story on that morning that Palace want Aribo for around a third of his value?

We need to focus on the match, not media nonsense.

And that’s why winning v Hearts and Aribo shining would be a pretty good answer to them.

  1. The £10m story is obviously rubbish but it highlights an issue that needs attention. Aribo will have just one year left on his contract come the summer. We need to protect our asset by giving him a new contract at the same time reassuring him it is to protect his value not to keep him at the club against his will. Sure we got him on the cheap but it’s the opportunity we gave him that got him to this point in his career.
