Rangers linked to CL hitman – or not?

Colombian media have played down reports that free agent Frank Castañeda is interesting Rangers after recent news claimed the Famous were looking at the £1.5M hitman.

The 27-year old, who last played in Moldova with Sheriff, has had a pretty uneventful and journeyman career (aside the CL shock), and is nowhere near a call up for his country never mind a cap, but it hasn’t stopped Scottish media making a claim Rangers are in for him.

But the report from his homeland quotes Salernitana, Empoli, Sochi, Samsunspor, and Augsburg only as the sides who are looking at him, and no one of major gravity.

The chap isn’t exactly Alfredo Morelos, albeit his career stats in lower-league football are 68 in 141 which is certainly impressive, but as we say, the Moldovan league (and Slovakia) isn’t quite Serie A.

But for Sheriff he made an incredible 5 CL appearances as Moldovan champions and even beat Real Madrid in there. Didn’t score, but he was in there. And he has got 3 goals in UCL qualifying. So not a total washout.

He is currently a free agent, having been let go by Sheriff on the 1st of January, and is on the lookout now for new employment.

We’ll see if Colombian media is correct or if Rangers really are in for him…
