About time he got some support (Credit Rangers FC)

Today was easily the most eventful of Rangers’ winter window. Not only did we shed some dead wood (with all due respect to Juninho Bacuna) but we finally (hopefully) out of the blue solved the ongoing right wing issue, in the most spectacular way possible.

Sure, we didn’t secure fan-favourite Andreas Skov Olsen, but the ‘interest’ in the Dane was, it seems, a brilliant red herring while Ross Wilson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst quietly set about signing themselves a £40M winger.

A 19-year old by the name of Amad Diallo, already an Ivory Coast international, who joined Man Utd in early 2021, for an initial fee of around £20M rising to £40M based on addons and appearances.

So, in other words, exactly the same kind of deal which will eventually secure £16M for Rangers over Nathan Patterson.

In terms of pure player value, this signing is the biggest in Scottish history. A winger worth into £40M is now at Ibrox, albeit it is only a loan and there’s no apparent purchase option – how could there be at those numbers.

And it solves, at least till the end of the season, the long-standing RW issue.

Is he world class? For the market value he’s got, you’d have to assume he is, but the proof in the pudding will be how he delivers in our shirt.

You’d wonder what the catch is – how an attacker with this level of potential came to the SPL, but then fans were hopefully of nabbing Xavi Simons who isn’t exactly an awful lot better in terms of that potential.

Is Diallo too good for the SPL? Is he a flop and that’s why Utd let him go?

All we can say is we cannot wait to see this kid in action, and enjoy the biggest talent, purely on monetary value, the Scottish game has ever seen.

Extraordinary.
