GVB has confirmed he did indeed ‘have coffee’ with his Celtic counterpart, but has revealed it wasn’t planned and was purely coincidental.

The Rangers manager set tongues wagging after social media released a photo of him with the Celtic manager and Ross Wilson, but Gio was quick to play it down as just a brief encounter and that the photo made it look like they were having a ‘five course meal’ together.

Speaking at his pre-Utd presser (assuming it goes ahead) Gio was respectful in his tone towards the Parkhead boss, but explained they live in around the same area and purely by coincidence the Aussie Greek showed up as Gio and Wilson were finishing up, but out of professional courtesy remained for a little longer to have a quick chat, then went on their merry way.

In truth, following the passings of Walter Smith and Bertie Auld, there is a tiny small sense of a thawing of some ice between both clubs, and Gio’s comments will only help that.

There will always be rivalry, there will always be hate, and there always was. But those of an older vintage will remember the respect between the two clubs, and their fans.

With the rise of social media, hate-trending has become the norm, so while we don’t suddenly now love Celtic, a little professional respect between our manager and Celtic’s is not a bad thing.
