We write this with a heavy heart, but an honest one. No man is bigger than the club, no players untouchable. And that’s why it’s time for both Allan McGregor and Steven Davis to hang up their gloves and boots and pass the Rangers legacy on to the younger generation.
We have NEVER been shy of honesty on this site, only sometimes using a bit of discretion when needed for the greater good of the club.
And that is why we can say, with regret, that both of Davis and McGregor are completely spent forces as Rangers players and it’s time for them both to pass the baton on.
Both, let’s be clear, were miracles last season. They were literally wonderful. McGregor had an impossible second half of the season where he threw everything he had into it, and he is on record admitting he’d have retired this summer if there had been fans there. Didn’t want to hang up his gloves before playing in front of fans.
And Davis was easily the most consistent player last season. He kept the levels up the whole time, even when most others were losing form and direction in the second half. He didn’t. Deservedly writers’ poty.
But that is now a while ago.
This season both of these gentleman have struggled. Davis has been slow, loose in possession, and has been off the pace in Jack’s absence. McGregor has barely made a single notable save all season. Most shots beat him and he has no presence any more in the box.
That’s just honesty.
Many fans are still seeing the 55 McGregor and especially Davis, and won’t hear a word against them.
But we’re always going to call as we see.
There’s nothing wrong with two aging footballers losing their edge. Goodness me, it’s not a criticism.
But the younger generation, the McCrories in goal, the Lundstrams and Kellys in midfield – they need to be used a lot more now.
Let both Davo and McGregor see the season out, but only as squad members now, used when needed.
Because the poor guys haven’t got it any more.
Hear hear
You are right on the ball today, unlike our team yesterday, and l don’t give 2 fucks about the hangwringers on here, they need a dose of reality, I’m relieved Gio is in charge starting from today, a clean slate as he will have made notes on the goalie, defence, midfield and up front, and decide that they are simply not good enough and ruthlessly weird that axe, l can’t wait for Thursday now to come around, the team will be night and day, with people that will give 110% for the jerseys
Agree totally with McGregor but Davis is still a valuable player maybe not every game but good for morale in the dressing room
I agree Jackie. McGregor has given his all for 55 and barely makes a save these days. 12 shots in last 5 games and 9 have resulted in goals. If we had that success rate we’d be winning 6-1 every week. But I still think Davis has something to offer albeit this will probably be his last season. But to take INs
point it’s not a criticism of either player as they have both been wonderful servants for the club.
I agree about Greggsy , love him as we do, but Stevie Davis can still add to the completion of 56 I’m sure of it .
SD only player in the team with a football brain
