Didn’t say goodbye – ex-Rangers manager out by the back door

Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, whose popularity with Ibrox supporters reduces by the day as more become aware of just how sneaky his exit was, did not in any way inform (many of/any?) the players of his exit, and didn’t say goodbye.

With many of the first-team squad away on international duty, Gerrard took the chance to go south to London, agree on a deal to be new Villa manager, and that was literally it.

The Birmingham side happily paid Rangers the £4.5M compensation and his contract with the club was immediately ripped up.

And none of his charges knew a thing.

There are many fans who ‘wish him the best’ and thank him for 55, and in truth we will always cherish last season, but SG’s conduct since Monday has been borderline ‘treacherous’ according to many of the messages from fans we’ve been getting.

Fans, who don’t want to be publicly abused by other supporters, have privately told us of their feelings on the former manager’s exit, and we’d say over the past few days more and more public shaming of the manner of his exit has taken place.

Not least his complete lack of respect shown to either Rangers as a club or the fans.

In fact, frankly his departure was ‘slippy’, and usually that’s a word used by Celtic fans to degrade him when he was our boss – but that is the kind of behaviour he showed in the way he left.

In truth, we see very few fans actually defending the underhand nature of how he left, or how he took the entire coaching staff with him without a thought for our club.

And the players, while publicly saying decent things, weren’t even given a goodbye.

Oh well, onwards and upwards.

  1. C’mon, are you even the slightest bit surprised from a scouser?? I would be going into the trophy room to see if all the cups are still there not to mention the wheels on the racing bike, it is true, you can never trust anything or anyone from Liverpool

  2. i respect all he done for Rangers but the way he left is not acceptable now he wants to break up the team i hope Rangers out price him on every bid for our players .in a year he will do the same for the Liverpool job

  3. Gerrard would not have acted in this way if Sir Walter was still with us.

I reckon he jumped ship because the main man behind the stopping of that lot making it 10 in a row was none other than Sir Walter, now he has gone Gerrard would be exposed and found wanting, just wait until Michael Beale gets snapped up by a club then we will see how he copes with the pressure then.

Does Stevie really think that he only found out on the Wednesday that another club would approach him, cannot understand why the Rangers Directors allowed him to crawl away leaving us without our training staff and the loss of a league title and a £45 million windfall into the champions league you could not make it up especially when we are £23 million O/D and in Debt.

Someone’s head should roll for letting this whole episode happen playing out like a circus.

Let’s hope we get the very best man in for the job.

    One unhappy bear.o

    • Rangers board gave him the respect to go and talk to his pal at Villa – he never returned it in any way shape or form to the support, the players or board.

    • Really Brian? Gerrard politely and respectfully gave Walter Smith credit as being a mentor and someone to talk to but to suggest he was the brains behind 55 is really stretching it too far. I’ll give you that for Michael Beale maybe but it’s churlish to suggest it wasn’t down to Gerrard.

  4. I .am still in complete shock of how he just left without a word ..he talked about rangers fans and players being like family..god help his family if thats how he walked away ..snake in the grass ….no guts to be up front with fans that had the greatest respect for him and coaching staff ..F..K You gerrard..

  5. Im disgusted at what has happened ..not the fact he left ..but how it was done ..sleekit git …if the fans and players were his “family” where was the respect we deserved …we new he woukd leave eventually but to leave us high and dry ..i very unhappy bear ….mr van bronckhorst ..RESPECT..

  6. C’mon stevie g ..show some class.. speak openenly and honestly with players and fans you told villa that you are committed 100% you were committed to rangers where does that leave villa with that wee fib …c’mon noo.
