“Bang in form – 9” – Rangers rated v Livi

Giovanni van Bronckhorst got off to a near-perfect start as Rangers manager with his second win out of two.

Ibrox Noise gives you our ratings for a hard-fought win in Livi:

McGregor:

One worldie save again as Greegsy’s hunger has just returned. Sure his positioning could be better and kicking was never his forte but he suddenly looks more like him again. 8

Tavernier:

Advanced more than he did v Prague, but still kept an eye on defence much more than he used to under the ex, with a massive increase these past two matches in tackling. Got a lot of crosses in, two assists, and the captain is completely bang in form. Sorry, Nathan Patterson has to be content with the bench for now. 9

Goldson:

Was left exposed by his team mates a few times, and was left looking a bit silly, but honestly we’ve seen worse from him even if he’s not mr popular right now with the fans. Lots of clearances and blocks plus tackles are seeing a much more physical Goldson now, but he’s also still learning the new manager. He was better than many are giving him credit for. Also, he’s just not hogging the ball like he used to. 7

Bassey:

He was alright, but not as sparkling as v Prague. The understanding with Goldson is non-existent and while he did well to clear his lines, he doesn’t read central defence too well. And that’s because he doesn’t like the position. 7

Barisic:

Similar performance to Prague, he’s not attacking with the same gusto of the old Barisic, but is defending with more stamina and discipline. This was decent from him. 7

Kamara:

Not as impressive as he was v Prague, but better than he has been, Kamara was steady. Maybe not as mobile though, and that was what stood out v the Czechs. 7

Arfield:

Brilliant from Arfield – all over the pitch, didn’t stick to any one slot but worked all over and of course scored an absolutely amazing goal. 9

Hagi:

A solid afternoon from Hagi, worked the channel well and linked up effectively. 7

Aribo:

Overlooking his ridiculous goal, this was a strong display from a player who’s thriving under Gio. Has a new lease of life in his preferred position and is one of the best players we have. Going to new levels. 9

Kent:

Good passing level but not standing out too much right now. Gives the balance on the left and works well as always but maybe not as dangerous as he normally is. 7

Morelos:

An assist, another good show from a man returning to his best form again. He looks more in the game now. 8

Subs:

Sakala:

Brilliant goal, and just loving life at Ibrox. 8

Patterson:

Made 12 passes, and all of them counted, but the form of Tavernier and the new system under Gio means the youngster has no real route (or now case for) the first team. 7

Manager:

Gio made just one change but it was a great one. Arfield worked the whole pitch and showed why he has to be a very regular starter now. The manager is understanding the ex’s squad better than he did, and the players are working for him. It lost its way in the middle in this one, but to get a 1-3 at Livi is no mean feat these days. He’ll be thrilled, but he also knows there’s a little bit of work needed in that defence. 9

  1. I agree with all ratings apart from Goldsons, he gave the ball away a lot, one he just passed out the park. The save Greegsy made was Goldson not sticking tight enough to B. anderson. Not as bad as Hibs but still a poor perfornance.

    • Fashion Jr to start every game, the boy needs a run in the team and Alfie on the bench for a few like Defoe

I wish we could play the puddle drink beggars from the east next, praying the sheep shaggers take something from them today

  2. I think you’ve been very generous in your markings. We had a bright start but it reverted back to type thereafter. Goldson and Kamara were awful, Bassey doesn’t look comfortable at CB, Barisic was just ok, Kent was indifferent and Morelos can’t control his central heating. And actually I was a bit disappointed with Aribo today, outwith his fantastic goal.

  3. I’ve got to disagree with you on the Goldson rating, his head still isn’t here and isn’t that interested, he needs to be dropped, his P45 would be acceptable too, Tav has stepped up a gear and as for Aribo ❤ ❤, my man of the match with a country mile, he is the one l fear we will lose in January
