GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - MAY 02: Rangers Manager Steven Gerrard looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on May 02, 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. Steven Gerrard has shown his class by admitting he’s delighted to see Hearts back in the SPL after effectively accusing the SPL of mistreating the Gorgie side during the ‘Covid Days’.

The veiled dig at the powers-that-be for their appalling handling of last year’s Covid vote was also a thinly-hidden smite at them over their treatment of Rangers in 2012 as well as the shambles of last year’s ‘vote’, while showing true Rangers grace in being delighted to see Hearts back where they belong in the SPL.

Gerrard’s media displays this season have been a little more inconsistent than his previous excellent outings in the press, but this comment was very classy indeed while cleverly taking aim at the incompetent SPL.

He said:

“First and foremost I think if you love the game and you love football like I do then I’m very pleased to see Hearts back in the top league because I thought they were very unfairly treated during the Covid days.”

This is such a brilliant statement because it gets absolutely to the heart (pun intended) of the matter that the Tynecastle side should not have been relegated on a vote, while also taking major aim at the SPL for denying Rangers a fair shot at the title as well, not to mention a subtle dig over the shambles of 2012.

All the while giving Hearts good grace and wishing them well.

The dignity of Rangers.
