We’ve watched with interest how the press reacted to Steven Gerrard’s comments on Alfredo Morelos and found ourselves comparing that portrayal with how they covered his identical comments on Ryan Kent.
Gerrard, a couple of months ago, admitted Kent wasn’t playing his best, and he was the one to really ask about it. So, so sum that up, his star signing, most expensive signing isn’t at his best and the manager concedes it.
Press reaction? Very little. It wasn’t really covered much in the media and barely merited much of a mention overall.
But when he says Morelos’ goal return isn’t good enough, that splashes all over the press in what can only be called a targeting overtone in negative headlines. It certainly feels like it.
We know Morelos is box office in Scotland, and stories about him get all the clicks and attention, but the fact the media airbrushed out the constructive praise his manager had also given him in the same statement and only focused on his goal return did demonstrate that the press love to attack Morelos in a way they never have with Leigh Griffiths for much, much worse.
There were no headlines telling the world that Gerrard is happy with Morelos’ performances, no headlines praising the striker for still playing well according to his manager, only the attacks.
We are absolutely not one to call the targeting card at all, but there’s an unevenness in how Morelos is portrayed to how Griffiths is/was, and the only differences are Griffiths is Celtic and he’s done a lot worse…
As for Ryan Kent – guess Morelos sells more clicks…
Griffiths is an absolute bheast, a kiddie fiddler and should be getting banned from using the Internet, put on the cfc nonce register and finally a long long stretch at her majesty’s pleasure
