Ibrox injury crisis could see the new ‘Nathan Patterson’

With Rangers suffering injury hell at the CB position and Niko Katic out on loan, Rangers do have other possibilities, and that is to promote Leon King, Lewis MacKinnon, or Kyle McClelland from our B-team.

Kyle is the oldest of the three, at 19 years old, and yes, it’s a big task to step up to the first team, but if we need more cover at CB, we already know the B-team plays the exact same system as the first team, and it would be far better to have a natural CB in at the CB position, than forcing the reluctant Calvin Bassey to play there.

Nathan Patterson’s success has already shown that some of our youth are ready to make the step up, and if injuries continue to wipe out our defence, then why not?

We clearly need some other options with all these injuries now giving us very little cover.

And these kids are guaranteed to give us 120%.

The reality is Rangers have a youth academy and the hype, for example, over Leon King and that new deal was significant because of how well rated the young man is.

Lewis Mayo is another Ibrox chiefs value greatly but he’s currently away on loan.

Give the kids a shot if need be? Why not – that’s why they’re there.

  1. Unfortunately the B team is in fact more of a C team, than a B team.

It is pretty much a 3rd choice side, as all our more developed youth players are out on loan at Premiership and Championship clubs (with the exception of Stephen Kelly).

They are miles off the standard of the 1st team and have been well beaten by Ayr United, as well as losing to a couple of part time semi pro teams in the Lowland League.

They certainly aren’t ready to play a competitive Premiership match yet.

A Championship loan would be the next step for the more impressive players in the B team.

  2. I’d personally love to see more younger players get a chance but the current management would it seems rather buy a 3rd rate English player than using any of our young Scottish players.

  3. I think we should definitely give the young CB’s a chance but I’m not too sure the top of the table clash this weekend is the right time to throw them in.

  4. Should definitely use the youngsters be great to see some youth players getting a chance to show what they got
