So, we’re going to say something a bit gasp controversial, and which is likely to get some ‘criticism’ from a few quarters of the support.
And that is that Rangers probably wouldn’t have beaten Hibs two weeks ago were it not for Ryan Porteous’ rush of blood to the head which castrated his side and robbed them of their shape.
Not only did Hibs lose him, their best defender, but they had to sacrifice their biggest creative outlet in Scott Allan, while putting on carthorse McGregor who couldn’t mark someone with a felt tip pen.
It left Kemar Roofe wide open for the equaliser before Morelos exploited their defensive shape loss further with another finish.
Of course, this doesn’t invalidate the result at all, we won fair and square and that’s legitimate. We exploited the situation (eventually) as was our right.
It’s just that with Hibs down basically two men because one of them had a moment of madness, even then Rangers still struggled to break the visitors down and it took till deep into the second half before we finally did.
Because, till Porteous got his marching orders, Hibs were entirely on top and worthy of their lead.
That’s the hard truth, and we’re not afraid to say it.
We will require to be a LOT better this weekend because we can’t rely on opposition players being sent off any more than we can results elsewhere in order for us to keep winning or top of the league.
This probably won’t be a popular post, because end of the day the bit we remember is the final score and the points won, and that’s rightly the case.
But the form really does have to pick up soon otherwise teams like Hearts and Hibs will start getting real joy v Rangers.
Let’s hope that form burst begins this weekend.
