For all the relief Rangers fans had over Celtic’s weekend result, we have realised it was a double-edged sword.
Livi got a massive win v the green and whites, and Rangers man David Martindale could not have been more pleased to kick start their season in that way, against that opposition.
But of course, an injection of confidence and belief for Livi has come right before they come to Ibrox to face Rangers, and this has always been a tricky opponent for Steven Gerrard who’ll be stuffy to say the least.
Asked by Mark Dingwall if the narrower interchange between the forwards was a new tactic and how Rangers would integrate Tavernier and Barisic’s width with that, Gary Mac explained we need more than one tactic to overcome the low block.
And that’s true, we do. We can’t rely only on the FBs sticking the crosses in, we have to vary it up as well, and for a team who thrive on the low block as Livi do, Rangers will need to have tactical variation to break it down.
But they have confidence now, an untimely injection of belief, and Celtic’s was a big scalp to take in doing so.
Will they believe they can get to the cup semi?
Yes, they will. Rangers are not playing our best right now, and it’s not the worst time to face us.
And it’s therefore the perfect time for Rangers to put in the complete 90 minute performance and kick them to the kerb for our semi final place.
But be wary of disrespecting Livi at our peril…
