“Advantage Rangers” as window bonus emerges over Celtic

Yet another transfer window has been and gone and not a single Rangers asset was sold.

After all the usual hype about Glen Kamara, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, not a soul in there was bid on let alone rejected an offer.

In so many ways we have to be happy about this. Our most prized assets, the Borna Barisics and Nathan Pattersons all remain part of our squad, guys who are seen as big parts of what make us tick remain at Ibrox, and frankly, we’re starting to think this will remain the case for some considerable time.

The one downside of course is it gave us no funds to invest in new players, no £20M bonuses to chuck into the club and give us a platform to continue to rebuild/improve the squad.

We got bad info on Borna Barisic’s supposed move to Roma, which was, it seems, a complete fabrication, so that £12M didn’t happen.

And the only other concrete bid received for any of our assets this summer was £5M then £8M for Nathan Patterson.

The positive is definitely quite simply keeping our best players. We have our continued compliment of top players to take us forward. We didn’t really want to lose any of them.

The negative is it gave us no funds to reinvest in the squad. The positive to counter that is the UEL group stage funds and SPL title funds not to mention share issue funds gave us a grand total alone of £11.5M. And hopefully we’ll see that used to strengthen us in January if need be.

So end result?

We have the core of champions still here, and they know how to win the league. Celtic have lost most of their former champions and are filled from the ground up now with newbies.

It’s advantage Rangers.

  1. It’s alright to say we keep the same core players but bringing in new faces keeps the the regulars on the toes or complacency sets in.

Would love to have seen Ali McCann Harry Wilson The boy Veerman and possibly young shankland brought on board it’s always healthy to have competition for places freshen the team up.

That said with injuries and covid restrictions getting through the Europa tie and beating that lot across the city, it is a cracking result getting the 3 points is a massive psychological boost it’s great being a bear happy days indeed.

    • New faces? Brian maybe you missed Lundstrum, Sakala, Bacuna, Ofoborh as well as youngsters McCann and Allegra. And of course we brought in Wright and Simpson early for this season. You don’t need to cost £5m to keep others on their toes.

  2. It’s great to keep all our important players, as long as they are motivated to remain important, but I do wonder why other teams don’t seem to want any of them. Meanwhile Ceptic continue to bring in very decent money for not particularly brilliant and underperforming players. It’s a puzzle.
