Portuguese shambles Abola, a dodgy source if ever we saw one, have seized Rangers’ exit from the CL for column inches by once again peddling the Alfredo Morelos to Porto story despite the fact the whole thing is completely nonsense.

This is not to say for the remaining 15 days of the transfer window it will remain that way, but the whole story, emanating from an outlet our Portuguese sources have described as, to be blunt, ‘fiction’, continues to spout from their pages like a cold sore.

Abola, as quoted by the equally dreadful Daily Record, claim Porto will exploit Rangers’ exit from the UCL by bidding a cut-price offer.

Now, to quote Abola exactly:

“This scenario (Porto signing Rangers) now seems to be more viable and Rangers themselves, who have never wanted the striker to leave, may have to change their mind and, surely, accept a lower price than the one they previously demanded for el-Buffalo’s services. The Scots have always aimed for an amount never less than 15 million euros, a value considered high by the blue and white (Porto) officials, who have been trying to lure Morelos with the fact that he will be able to play in the Champions group stage in 2021/2022 and also with a salary higher than that which he receives in Scotland.”

Where, in that entire passage, is there any evidence Porto are actually interested in Morelos?

It’s literally an opinion piece from Abola claiming ‘because Rangers are out of the CL Porto will surely be able to sign him for cheap’.

There is no evidence at all that Porto have negotiated with Morelos and certainly none that they have with Rangers.

The whole thing continues to be a fabrication.

Maybe Porto will wake up tomorrow and randomly decide they want to sign Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos, but until then, there’s zero interest and zero story.
