Rangers face Partick Thistle in the first match of pre-season in preparation of the new campaign, and while predicting the team (s) and result is absolutely pointless, it will be interesting to see which eleven players do start for this one.

Steven Gerrard needs to get proper fitness into his players’ legs, and we’ll know come Monday which ones it was the manager was disappointed with over their ‘excess’ during the summer break.

And by that we mean the players in question won’t be involved in proceedings at all.

Stevie needs to get minutes into his players, in the long slog of getting them back up to speed, so expect two XIs, with plenty subs in each.

The match is live PPV on RTV, so loyal fans can watch this one unfold as it happens rather than relying on text commentary, and we’d expect a really good workout from a Thistle team that’ll be eager to record a (meaningless) but ego-boosting win v Rangers.

The match will also be at Partick’s home turf meaning Rangers will have no fans and the home crowd, while a modest 2,000, will be the first crowd Rangers have played in front of since Leverkusen in 2020.

Will that make a difference?

It’ll be nice to have fans back, put it that way.

End of the day, all this one needs is a good workout for the visitors – a result would be nice but it’s immaterial.

  1. I’m extremely disappointed that the club are charging £6 for this match. Given the training nature of this match, and the number of players missing, surely it could’ve been broadcast free at the very least to season ticket holders, RTV subscribers and My Gers members. They can’t keep fleecing the fans.
