Rangers are said to be ‘close’ to the signing of Middlesbrough’s Britt Assombalonga after the Congo striker once again came up on the club’s radar, according to reports.

The 28-year old, capped only twice by his country (0 goals), lost his place at Neil Warnock’s Riverside, and has been unable to secure many minutes at all, and looking at his career it’s not hard to see why.

Just 75 goals in 221 outings in the Championship, but a paltry 5 in 31 this season for Boro has put Britt to the bottom of the queue and we have to say if the reports are true that we’re interested, it’s definitely blind faith on our part that he can deliver where a 10-year career has maybe failed to thus far.

Of course, he joined Boro from Forest in a £15M deal 4 years ago, but then that says more about overpriced players than the striker’s own merits.

Rangers were ‘close’ to the addition of Fashion Sakala a few days ago as well, whose CV wasn’t exactly outstanding, and it’s certainly interesting seeing all these African players being linked with moves to Ibrox – if of course any of it’s true, we will trust Stevie on it, but we can’t deny Assombalonga’s CV isn’t blowing us away at this point.

And we’ll see if he agrees in due course.
