Rangers have tonight been linked with a summer move for Middlesbrough’s Britt Assombalonga on a free transfer, following the Congo striker’s expiring contract this summer.
The centre-forward, who has a career 131 goals in 344 appearances is 28 and been capped twice for his country, and has never played at a level higher than England’s Championship.
Indeed, his CV reads like a who’s who of modest lower league sides such as Watford and Peterborough, and even in the present season he’s only secured 5 goals in 29 league outings.
It’s certainly one of the less exciting names we’ve been linked to in the past year or so, and the 5ft 8 hitman isn’t exactly a first pick at Boro either, with just 19 starts.
The thought definitely occurs if he isn’t good enough for Middlesbrough, with all due respect, he probably isn’t good enough for the Scottish champions either.
This does strike of an agent trying to stir up interest in his player, especially given he’s a free agent come the summer.
If Stevie really is after this guy, we trust him, but we kind of hope it’s just nonsense.
