“Belting goal – 8” – Rangers players rated v County
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - JANUARY 23: Ryan Jack of Rangers celebrates scoring his team's fourth goal during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers Ross County at Ibrox Stadium on January 23, 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. Rangers extended that extraordinary gap in the SPL to a quite hysterical 23 points today with an excellent win over improving Ross County.

Ibrox Noise takes you through our scores for the Light Blues.

McGregor:

Just not applicable. Literally had absolutely nothing to do. Couple of tiny hairy defensive moments but was left to kick and little else. N/A

Tavernier:

Not the absolute best from Tav but an improvement from recent performances, and even technically credited with an assist for Aribo’s albeit that can’t really be classed as one! Lots of crosses, quite a few hitting their mark, and defensively clean enough. Solid. 7

Goldson:

Aside the goal, he had a quiet and comfortable afternoon, only tested once or twice really but nothing came of it. Didn’t have much to do in a defensive capacity. 7

Helander:

One shaky touch at KO aside, this was an excellent return for Helander who did have a bit to deal with and did so with comfort. Good positional sense and seems hungry. Also belting goal. He’ll be happy with his afternoon. 8

Barisic:

Two assists, and nearly a third but for amazing defending, this was a polished performance from the Croat despite some rough treatment from the visiting defenders. Couple of good defensive moments too. 8

Davis:

A ridiculous 96.5% passing level shows the form he was in, and he pulled the strings as always in the centre. Taken off at 65 minutes to save his energy. 8

Kamara:

Quiet but efficient, not a big performance from the Finn but a clean one. Just did the simple stuff and did it well. 7

Aribo:

Slow to get going but the goal definitely helped, and what a stunner it was too. It was typical of Aribo – he doesn’t dictate matches but he can have amazing impact moments. We see in glimpses what this lad can do. He just needs to do it more. 8

Kent:

Amazing to see him score with his head, but that’s what he did. Lively performance, not his best but a lot better than he’s been in recent times. Four shots, and the post saved Ross County at least once. No assists today but a decent outing. 7

Hagi:

This was good from Hagi, and not just the assist. He was able to impress himself on the match quite well, managing 5 shots. He’ll be happy with his contribution. 8

Morelos:

Assist for Kent showed his unselfish side, and he worked hard out there. Was seen deep helping out quite a few times, and didn’t waste much at all. In all honesty in the last three matches Morelos has been better by a mile than he was at any point in 2020. 8

Subs:

Jack:

What a fantastic cameo. Major impact, everywhere, and got a great goal. Delighted to see him back and he’s probably assured his start in midweek. 8

Zungu:

Clean passing, not hugely impactful but not wasteful. This is kind of what we described him as. He’s not a flash mid by any means. 7

Itten:

A bit too much on the periphery and wasn’t able to impact the match much. 5

Defoe:

We can’t say we noticed him on the pitch at all. Probably his most anonymous 30 minutes in a Rangers shirt. 3

Patterson:

Will be thrilled with an impressive cameo, got forward a few times and even managed one or two crosses. Lad is developing and his passing level was impressive. 7

Manager:

Steven Gerrard:

Made a popular change in giving Helander the shirt and it paid off as Rangers looked solid at the back, unlike previous matches. His team absolutely showed up for him, producing an excellent performance, easily the best for weeks in truth. County weren’t to be easy but Rangers, hungry, brushed them aside. The raft of subs did disrupt a little but a lot of the cameos were used well. 8

  1. Very happy with the result , could have been a cricket score . Aribo has so much ability he needs to believe that he’s that good . I thought Barasic was excellent . Helander too is a better reader of the game than Balogun . Tave pen was poor but he needs to keep the honour I think . Onwards 55

  2. Much better performance and encouraging that there is a lot more to give. Many players operating at less than their best (not a criticism but a fact). Scary to think the heights we can reach if they all get it right on the same day. Surely Jack’s goal will go down as one of the best of the season. Started at our own corner flag it involved 9 players playing 22 passes. Brilliant.
