Rangers rated v Gala – which two men do we score a 10…
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 01: Scott Arfield of Rangers celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the UEFA Europa League play-off match between Rangers and Galatasaray at Ibrox Stadium on October 01, 2020 in Glasgow, Scotland. Football Stadiums around Europe remain empty due to the Coronavirus Pandemic as Government social distancing laws prohibit fans inside venues resulting in fixtures being played behind closed doors. Belatedly we bring you our ratings, not that they really matter now, for last night’s wonderful win over Gala. We’ll get onto the draw later today, but for now, the scores.

McGregor:

Apart from picking the ball out the net, McGregor had a hilariously quiet night. Faced with Radamel Falcao, he barely had a save to make. He will have enjoyed that. 6

Tavernier:

No words needed for this one. 10.

Goldson:

Really strong display from Goldson. Was entrusted with keeping Falcao quiet and did so brilliantly. A couple of slightly hairy moments but all in all, pretty exemplary. 9

Helander:

Also dealt with Falcao but worked on other areas too, and nothing got past him – looks more and more a top, top defender and a bargain for the £3M. 9

Barisic:

Still not quite his stellar best but better than he’s been recently – some good balls into the box and mostly seen in an attacking vein. 7

Kamara:

‘Camera’ (can someone please tell Clive) was quiet, steady, strong, and used his body well as he has this season and was neat. Worked well with Davis to ensure Gala’s central threat was minimised. 8

Davis:

A very polished display from the fulcrum, his passing was excellent and he read the game like the pro he is. Was able to guide Kamara while spreading play. 8

Kent:

Ok, again, a little quiet from Kent but a bit better than his subdued display v Motherwell, hopefully he starts to get back to the superb form from before. More of a team display from him without the individual flair we normally get from him. 7

Arfield:

Even aside his goal a true powerhouse display. Ok there was a mixup with Goldson, but that aside the guy is on electric form and this was another display of it. Really doing a hell of a job linking midfield with attack. A captain in all but armband. 9

Hagi:

Surprise choice given Jones’ display at the weekend, and we’ve explained the nature of his display. Doesn’t dominate, but has big moments. And produced another last night. 8

Morelos:

He’s playing a kind of false 9 role now, goals are no longer his forte – he’s playing deeper, dragging defenders away from the box and creating space for others to run into. It’s a new role, a team role, but we can’t help feeling that it’s slightly wasting him as a threat. That all said, he still doesn’t look overly thrilled in our shirt. 7

Steven Gerrard:

Nailed it again. Guy has the absolute Midas touch in European competition and this team is a different level in competition of this nature. 10
