True, the rest probably don’t have a tonne of hiked stock due to age in many cases, but the strategy is clear.

While Rangers are definitely spending money these days – Roofe, Itten and Hagi to name just three, there is a massive emphasis not on penny pinching, but on shrewd acquisitions.

On one hand you’ve got the clever signings like Aribo and Kamara – the super cheap deals which see their value skyrocket once they grow as players and showcase their quality on the colossal stage that is Ibrox.

On the other you’ve the wily veterans – the Arfields, McGregors and Defoes, whose quality on the pitch is reliable and dependable, who have no resale value, but whose value to their colleagues on and off the pitch is priceless.

Rangers’ management team has focused on signing within our means – deploying a top class scouting network which finds young players with bags of potential and snaps them up at bargain prices or exploits cross-border rules, and older players with tonnes of experience and who still have a lot to offer.

Then there’s the premium ones, the Hagis and Roofes – no matter how shrewd your business acumen, you cannot assemble a squad of the quality of Rangers for literal pennies.

But the strategy is clear.

And mercifully the loan market has been completely abandoned.
