Morelos bidding war increases – £20M ‘reached’…

The bidding war for Alfredo Morelos has hit nearly £20M following Rangers’ refusal to buckle to a reported €12M bid from French side Lille.

The Ligue 1 side are said to be coming back with a higher number, with information suggesting it’s in the €16M range, but PL side West Brom have reportedly joined the chase and will bid closer to £20M.

In short, there is just no way Morelos can play tomorrow if these stories are true, and we’ll be shocked if they’re not, because Rangers won’t risk injury on his part and the subsequent transfer fee.

The reality is the Colombian’s time in Glasgow finally draws to a close, and until the fee is agreed, Rangers will be extremely unlikely to risk him – who would for a fee in the £20M range?

Morelos wants his move, is now on record as waiting for it, and Rangers want the right price.

They stated publicly they expect the same as Celtic got for Dembele – and that’s a reasonable figure. After all, having rejected earlier bids from Lille, it’s clear Rangers are playing hardball, as well they should.

And we can expect other clubs to bid too.

With Lille making an official move, the wheels have finally set in motion for Morelos’ exit – but the question is whether Gerrard can afford starting an unhappy wantaway player who’s worth close to £20M.

We’d imagine not.
