Deep into the transfer window, and just three weeks till the serious action resumes, and Celtic’s slapping of an £18M price tag on Norwegian Ajer after Italian giants AC Milan made moves for him shows just how ridiculous it is that SPFL fans AND Rangers fans poo-poo our chances of getting the same for our prize assets.

Remember, 14 caps for Norway, not a single appearance in the Champions League, and yet it’s perfectly normal for them to charge around £20M for a 22-year old, but it’s implausible that Rangers would charge that for Borna Barisic who’s already got a far superior CV to the Scandinavian, tainted titles aside.

We get sick of our own fans mocking the notion of £25M for Barisic, £20M+ for Morelos, £15M for Finnish cap Glen Kamara – it’s ludicrous enough when SPFL fans poke fun at such sums being mentioned for our prize assets, but when our own supporters suggest such numbers are ridiculous yet barely blink when Celtic get £25M for Tierney, £20M for Dembele and now want the same for a kid with similar caps to Barisic and far less European stock as well?

It’s time Rangers supporters bucked up our esteem when it comes to our players.

Yes, Barisic can fetch £25M. Yes Morelos can fetch similar. And yes Kamara could get close to £15M.

Or is that not possible just because it’s our own players?
