Alfredo Morelos got dog’s abuse this calendar year for poor form. While he escaped slack over late December and January, by late February most of the support had lost patience with his performance and couldn’t have driven him away fast enough.
However, the attention on the faltering Colombian completely distracted from an even more disappointing figure whose displays had absolutely vanished overnight.
Ever since signing a major extension, in fact.
Borna Barisic, whose finest match in football was at Parkhead in December, who topped the UEL stats for assists and was in absolutely staggering form, became the subject of interest from Roma especially, while also attracting the attention of other clubs throughout Europe.
The 27-year old Croat international was peaking a little later than most, but certainly was in spectacular form.
Unfortunately the transfer speculation disrupted him, and then despite signing a new deal, his displays didn’t pick up.
In short, a huge reward, a long-term extension, and Barisic vanished.
Thanks to Morelos’ dip, Barisic’s rather flew under the radar, meaning he really didn’t get the level of flack the ex-HJK man did – but there’s absolutely no doubt his drop in form was just as stark, even if it didn’t carry the same drama.
Obviously action is a little away, but if anyone else makes a move for the Croat, and word is there’s still plenty interest in him, including continuingly from Roma, we’d be happy to sell now.
He’ll make us a decent profit, and it’s clear his heart hasn’t been in it this year.
Not alone on that one mind you.
