Stevie has a choice to make, and we'd like your input

Rangers fans have often debated about the best combinations for various parts of the XI, and we’ve had this one on the backburner for a while in relation to midfield.

Just what IS Rangers’ best midfield?

We do have some quality players in here, but with Steven Gerrard’s chopping and changing and injury concerns, we’ve never really been able to solidify what our best combo is.

So Ibrox Noise will take you through the players we have and where we rate them.

Steven Davis:

He’s lost a lot of popularity this year with a perceived loss of form, but the best Steven Davis Rangers have is one who does his stuff alongside Ryan Jack. Davis did not just become a bad player overnight, nor did he lose his legs overnight. He’s a rolls royce player and we’ve covered this here.

Ryan Jack:

A true workhorse, Jack is gifted in attack as well as defence, and marauds the middle brilliantly – he’s the complete midfielder, even if his form and health this year have not been great. He’s a real stalwart.

Scott Arfield:

Not that far off Jack but not as mobile, Arfield concentrates his work ethic in the attacking third where he can link and create space, not to mention score. A fine leader and has authority few others do.

Glen Kamara:

Apart from a fine split in 2019, this has been a hideous signing. We bought briefly into him during that high spell, but Glen Kamara is absolutely rank rotten. No control, no concentration, dreadful decision making, and just an all-round dud. We have no idea how he manages to get matches for Finland.

Now, we move onto the ‘attacking’ midfielders:

Joe Aribo:

Another questionable signing, Aribo just doesn’t fit in. He’s got some nifty footwork, yes, and can score, but he has no pace, can’t jump, defensively he’s absent and he looks completely like the odd one out. Gerrard can’t find a position for him to stick. He is kind of strangely decent at stealing the ball off opponents, but overall we’re not sure we can defend his contribution.

Ianis Hagi:

Yet to be selected in his ideal 10 position, the Romanian is an international class player who’s done it at many levels – he’s shown his quality at Ibrox already. Our one issue with him is pace. He doesn’t have any, and that’s a big miss in his position. True, he’s quicker than Aribo, but so am I. Otherwise he’s a fine player with great vision, attitude and an eye for goal. Technically a very gifted player.

So, which three would we go with in a trio?

Davis, Jack and Hagi.

No Arfield, right? Gasp. We love Arfield, but to get the best out of Davis we need Jack, and we also need the creative quality of Hagi ahead of them.

But hey, that’s just our ill-informed take on it.

What three would you go with?

Which three would you pick of these?

Steven Davis
Ryan Jack
Scott Arfield
Glen Kamara
