Steven Gerrard has made a big mistake

Shock horror, and we’re on a football topic, the topic of Jamie Murphy. That’s right, one of the many players Steven Gerrard reckoned wasn’t good enough as a squad member at Ibrox has, this year, torn it up at a level arguably higher (and at least equal to) the Premiership in the form of England’s League One.

The winger has been on fire, showing his quality and nailing goals and assists left right and centre, while Gerrard has been left with the rather dismal options of Sheyi Ojo, Brandon Barker and a Ryan Kent stuttering to get any form.

The reality is this player was aching to make an impact at Ibrox, aching to be given a chance, but Gerrard, in his wisdom, thought he’d benefit from minutes elsewhere.

And true, he certainly has benefited, in a way which shows Rangers’ manager just why Murphy would be better at Ibrox than down south for Burton, no offence.

We wouldn’t claim Murphy is the dawn of the Messiah, but his stats so far in England show a player worth far more than being completely frozen out in Govan.

In just 10 appearances for Nigel Clough’s men, Murphy has 7 goals and 2 assists – and don’t forget League One’s quality is far higher than its ‘third tier’ status would suggest.

Hopefully, in time, Gerrard will relent and bring Murphy back – but we also get the feeling that no matter how certain players do, this manager will never favour them.

Prove us wrong Stevie, and give the boy, who’s one of our own btw, a chance again.

Do you want Jamie Murphy back at Ibrox?
