While Rangers’ form gradually creaks back to something approaching acceptable, slowly, as we say, it comes as no surprise whatsoever that two Rangers men Steven Gerrard didn’t take a fancy to are storming it up at their loan clubs.
Jamie Murphy has already had a ridiculous 3 goals and assists inside four matches at Burton, while Greg Docherty nailed 2 assists and a goal inside one match for Hibs.
Sure, in Docherty’s case he was up against BSC Glasgow, but you can only beat what you play and both he and Murphy are showing just how good they are.
It’s evident both of them are determined to prove Gerrard wrong, and so far you’d have to say they are.
With Gerrard, he has his favourites, we get this, and accept this. As long as the results are good, we can’t question it.
But lately they and the performances have been off colour, with a modicum of improvement in the last two, so we are allowed to wonder why Brandon Barker and Sheyi Ojo remain while Murphy is destroying League One, and why Docherty is continuing his League One form at Hibs and not in the shirt of blue.
It’s obviously frustrating, especially when we look at Ryan Jack’s absence the past month or so in Docherty’s case, and the qualities of the two backup wingers we have left in Murphy’s case.
Steven Gerrard has made the big call to reject both Docherty and Murphy.
Time will tell if Barker, Ojo and the midfield prove him right.
