Steven Gerrard might have to take a huge gamble this month

Steven Gerrard has a major risk on his hands following Alfredo Morelos’ yellow card against Aberdeen last weekend.

With cup bookings accumulating, another yellow card against Derek McInnes’ men at Ibrox in the replay will see Morelos suspended for the potential semi-final against Celtic, and obviously his void in that one would be colossal.

Does Gerrard run the risk of losing his star man for the semi-final by letting him loose at Ibrox on the 12th, or does he play it cautious and save him for the semi-final by sending out Kyle Lafferty or Jermain Defoe instead?

Of course, the removal of Morelos would hugely hamstring Rangers, given the pest that the £20M-rated Colombian is to opposition defences – and he has goals in him against the Dons so his void would definitely be felt.

But equally, would potentially losing him for the semi-final be a risk worth taking?

We’ll put this one over to you guys.

  1. He has to play against Aberdeen, not to play him because another yellow and he would miss semifinal if we beat Aberdeen. We have to convince ourself we are not a one man team, and get used to playing without him, especially if looks like he will be leaving in the summer.

  2. To get into the semi-final, we must beat Aberdeen. This has historically shown not to be an easy task! It clearly shows we need our best team to beat the sheep, therefore Morelos has to play regardless of being one away from suspension.
We are no where good or consistent enough to drop our best players in any important games such as this!

  3. Do we then leave him out of the semi because another booking would rule him out of the final ?

  5. If it was me i'd probably put Jermain and Kyle up there, if Lafferty can swear, his post-battering, lack-lustre ways, are behind him.

  6. It's a pity we can't trust a player to get through ONE game without getting booked. We have to play our best team and Morelos has to be told to play his normal game. We saw on Sunday how insipid his performance was after he got booked. We'll worry about the semi once we get through.

  7. The notion that this Rangers team can win any game without playing our strongest eleven is conceited and is downright stupid. So to stretch this stupidity a wee bit further, we rest him and get whacked by the sheep, but better still he gets red carded in the first minute against the Eastenders. WTF.

  9. Leave him out unless we go a goal down. Play Lafferty because of his height and in the second half let Defoe join him
