Rangers could be in line for a £30M+ windfall…

There is no doubt the Old Firm win yesterday changed everything, from expectations to morale, to Scott Brown’s underwear colour.

However, the January window is well upon us now and we’ve been wary of the vultures who were ready to circulate around two of our biggest saleable assets – Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier.

Morelos might not have had the most sparkling Old Firm, but he worked hard and didn’t do major damage to his value, while captain Tavernier’s defending was some of the best we’ve seen from a Rangers RB in this fixture for many a year.

And before the match started, there was plenty talk of Morelos’ value in particular, with estimations pinning a 22-year old Colombian international SPL top scorer’s value at a possible £20M, while his team mate with the armband was somewhere between £5M-£10M.

There is little question Tavernier, at least, has seen his value skyrocket after yesterday’s display, and the ex-Wigan man picked a hell of a time to have one of his best matches in the light blue shirt – we’d suggest it would take something in excess of £12M now for the likes of West Brom to secure him.

This means, should those vultures circle us next month and take seriously bidding for our biggest assets, Rangers are looking at over £30M incoming should the board and Steven Gerrard submit to it and sell the players.

This might seem OTT, after all, £30M sounds absurd. But we’re not talking about an average striker. If a 20-year old French striker who hasn’t even picked up a call up for France can set back Celtic £9M, and they sell one who’s two years older for well over double that, can someone justify how Alfredo Morelos is not worth this ballpark amount?

And as for Tavernier – his bumper new deal and current form, plus his nationality and the fact he’s in demand suggests it would be absurd to let him go for less than the going rate.

Yes indeed, Rangers are in a position where we don’t need to sell. And don’t want to. Therefore if suitors want Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier, they must dig deep in their pockets and paying the going rate.

Or these two stay.

  1. Keep Morelos
    & Sell/send back from Loan :

Foderingham, Tavernier, Flanagan, Hodson,Worrall, Rossiter, Coulibaly, Pena, Herrera and Dodoo.

    • Stevo
I agree. If we can, on Morelos.
Of your sell/loan list, we could get money for Foderingham. If we sell Tav and Flanagan who will play RB? Worrall was good yesterday, I prefer Katic but if we send Worrall back will need someone else in. We have other areas of need with greater priority. I agree on Coulibaly as we have plenty of midfielders, but if Rossiter goes as well (who to?) we will need to bring a body in.

Who will buy or loan the others?

    • Worrall was excellent yesterday, as he was against Hibs. Maybe he's just starting to settle into the team. If he can keep performing like that and we can get Goldson back up to his early season form then we can have a formidable pair of centre backs.

    • We get two new proper RBs
Iorfa and the boy from Killie…O'Donnell?

Yeah we go out and get
      Halkett/Liam Lindsay/Tafazoli etc

Coulibaly ain't the same player he was before the injury.
To someone like Wigan/Sunderland…the lower leagues in England 🤔

We might not need to as we have Jack, Docherty, Arfield,McCrorie, Barjonas etc
And to be honest how much has Rossiter actually contributed this season? …not much.

      Foderingham – Leeds/Villa etc
      Tav – Brighton/WBA etc
      Flanagan – Sheff Utd/Blackburn
      Hodson – St Mirren/Falkirk/I.C.T
      Worrall – BTF
      Rossiter – Mboro, Preston, Wigan
      Coulibaly – BTA
      Pena – Back to Mexico?
      Herrera – Back to Mexico?
      Dodoo – QPR, Brentford, Sunderland

    • What absolute tosh! We won't and shouldn't sell Tav. And if, for some absurd reason, we do and get his market price of around £8m, clubs don't buy a player of that value and then loan back: unless you are talking about Real Madrid and the likes – who would not be signing Tav!

  2. I am happy now that the transfer time is here and looking forward to some changes in defence in particular, Tavernier can go as he was never a right back maybe a wing back, and we need strikers if Morelos goes
The money they would bring in would surely buy better players
Hopefully we can go into the new year with a stronger team

  3. Finally the team is getting back to a state of normalcy. Topping the league, beating septic, acquiring and grooming players for profitable resale. FINALLY, back to normal.
I think THAT is the greatest windfall. Just to be normal RANGERS again.

    • 100% correct. We don't need to (and shouldn't be) selling any of those played yesterday. We're building a squad: not dismantling one.

  4. 30mil+ ya dancer👏👏👏
