Rangers missing three defenders for Saturday?

Rangers’ preparations for the season-opening clash with Hamilton at Ibrox have been rocked by the emerging revelation that three defenders could be missing for the visit of Martin Canning’s men.

Danny Wilson, Clint Hill and Matt Crooks will all reportedly be unavailable through suspension, injury and long term injury recovery respectively, limiting manager Mark Warburton’s selection options considerably.

If these players are indeed out for the start of Rangers’ Premiership campaign, it leaves only Rob Kiernan as the sole senior defender remaining available for Warburton’s back line on Saturday, and if not quite ‘disaster’, it is extremely distressing given the defence’s ailing fortunes at present with everyone fit.

It suggests a major reshuffle will be required at the rearguard, although it will take a smarter man than me (called Mark Warburton) to figure out exactly what the best solution will be.

It would not be a shock to see Lee Hodson alongside Kiernan as the pairing, or indeed a call up from the youth ranks for this one.

We will wait to see just how badly depleted Rangers are at the back come Saturday, or if the likes of Hill and Crooks will be fit in time.

We can only hope…

  2. If we have no decent youngster available, I would put ANdy Halliday in there as a sweeper. He reads the game very well and can tackle. He has played as a defensive midfielder most of last season too. Ultimately the manager has created such a team spirit, so I'm sure any player that is asked will do it.

  3. Surprise, surprise , not , if Hill is not fit........look at his game time over the last two seasons plus at 38 his legs will still be wobbling after the Burnley run around.
Looks as if we will need another central defender to replace the new central defender.........a diabolical purchase, but hey he's Joey's mate!

  7. I am suggesting the following team for this Hamilton game, if indeed Danny Wilson and Clint Hill are not fit to play in the game - in a - 3 - 4 - 1 -2 formation: - Fotheringham - Hodson Kiernan Wallace - Tavernier Barton Rossiter Halliday - Kranjcar - Waghorn McKay. This team should be capable of getting all 3 points, if they play well enough on the day.

    2. Gasparotto I think he means... I've not exactly lost sleep over him. He was a good youngster but never really pushed on (possibly due to Ally being in charge). Isn't one of the McCrorie brothers a centre half? Or is he a right back?

    3. Technically we didn`t sell him , we freed him because he wasn`t rated as good enough. You are right Ross McCrorie plays centre back or right back but as someone else has said ,I think it will be Wallace inside and Hodson at Full Back.Apart from on here I have not seen this raised as a problem , so I`m wondering if it is true.

  10. Hodson is not the ideal choice to play CH.... he's only 5' 8". You can't help injuries and suspensions, but even so, we're woefully lacking cover. Where's our 4th CH??

  11. How come the players are all kitted out in the new Puma/SD kit but the board, and King who is not on the board, don't want the fans to buy merchandise?
This is all going to end very badly for the club with unsold stock being re invoiced to the football club.
King, Murray and co are way out of their depth on this and if it gets anywhere near court the costs will be horrendous.
Given that we already need a minimum of £8m in soft loans to get to the end of the season where is the money going to come from?
If the Tims get CL proper it's £20m plus in the bank.......ffs that's more than our last reported audited annual turnover.
This dispute has to be resolved immediately.....as things stand the only sources of income are ST monies and TV cash.......with the pending legal costs our merchandising income is likely to be negative.
Those who still trust in King are about to have their eyes opened, neither he nor Murray have the skill set to run a football club.......well apart from running it into the ground as they helped do with the previous club.

    2. You're an ostrich that sticks yer heed up yer arse instead of in the sand. Oh the profanity. People need to chill the fuck out though we won the league comfortably and have heavily strengthened each position. I wish we got that Marriappa but I'm still believing we can win the league.
