Kenny Miller. Nicky Law. Ryan Hardie. Danny Wilson. Barrie McKay. Jason Holt.
On most given matches this would be half of Rangers’ first team, but last night Mark Warburton put all of them on the bench, and started instead with Ball, Shiels, Zelalem, Oduwa and Clark.
Rangers’ starting XI was strong last night, to say the least. And it ran out a stroll as comfortable winners 0-5. But it was the strength of the bench which was quite easily the most impressive bench Rangers have had post-admin.
They say the true status of a team is judged by looking at the bench. If a squad has depth, the players in reserve will be just as viable/good as those who start.
Manager Mark Warburton has preached from the get-go about having a bench that is able to equally replace the first team, and that the game is about the whole squad, not just the first XI.
Going by this, the man has absolutely nailed it:
- David Templeton is out injured. He is not missed.
- Darren McGregor has been released. He is not missed.
- Marius Zaliukas has been released. He is not missed.
- Cammy Bell is out injured. Easily covered.
- Calum Gallagher was sold. And?
- Andy Murdoch has been demoted to the unders. Makes no difference.
Mark Warburton has systematically set about building an efficient, lean, well-equipped squad which has just as much strength on the bench as it does in the starting XI.
For a supposedly ‘reserve’ level first team to go out and absolutely smash Airdrieonians last night gives some indication of the strides Warburton is making to get Rangers moving in the right direction.
25 goals scored and 7 out of 7 wins suggest he is doing exactly that.
25 goals scored
Every week we get stronger and stronger. The confidence is spread throughout the whole Rangers family. There will be setbacks along the way, that is inevitable in football, but that will not deter us from our mission to retake our place at the top of Scottish football and becoming competitive in Europe.
I don't really care how long it takes either. I really don't.
After the last few years, I am just so grateful that we have people in charge who are only concerned with the welfare of the club and a great management team who have put together a great wee squad who play good stuff.
The future is looking good. Like all supporters I'm hopeful that we could even win one of the major cups, even both, this season. If that doesn't happen, though, I won't be slashing my wrists. I'm just enjoying the journey now. At last. Onward and upward.
C'mon the Gers!
great stuff and just wait to we win the league cup and win a place in Europe its just like old times eh in king we trust
Good comment only thing is you forgot to say Law was not missed I,hope it stays that way.
Time now to stop slagging the players who are still there !
Law is surfing on the wave of our quality players he will be binned soon Warburton is no mug
Law has stepped up to the mark and has been delivering, Angus Stewart you are the weakest link goodbye!!!
Law has been enjoying a revival and playing well, now that Gers are a football team again!
What a excellent start, I wish John Eustace can just get over his fitness problem, a real good holding midfielder,Kevin Nolan leaving West Ham another but out of our wage structure, nevertheless these kids are good, it's great to walk into your local with a smile on your face and really sense something is happening out there, if only we took Gordon when we had a chance
Gordon does not deal with crosses well and never commands his box hence Celtic losing so many set piece goals also Foderingham is improving game by game and his control of the box is excellent plus distribution getting better and better. So thanks but no thanks Gordon will be injured again soon and is old.
Well he does wear a magic hat lol…. Can somebody remind me how the song goes av forgot……..?????lol
David scum sorry Scott y don't U go on ur teams page and talk crap coz fuds like U have no place on here tic scum

Ã…ge Hareide returned the magic hat to Warbs saying "that worked a belter" – stolen from today's Daily Record so not my own work…!!!
Warbs wears a magic hat because he's magician and Delia wears a Tommy Cooper hat because he's a joke WATP
Taxis and p45s for Stubbs and Delia, hope not whilst they two are in charge of football teams I will always have a laugh, WATP
I've been to a few U20s games Jordon Thompson will surely get a game in the seniors sooner or later and Liam Kelly should be stand in keeper if foderingham gets injured, like bell nice bloke buts should let him go WATP
Who is this Kid Thompson i hear alotta people talkin about this boy, hopefully he will get game time
Wearing my sensible hat, It was only Airdrie & quite frankly we should be batterin teams like them, I think now as the cup is progressin and we are gonna get the ST Johnstones etc, now we will see the mettle of the team & see how Warbs copes with it, i have got faith in the man he is good [ couldnt be any worse than the previous] &I believe he will steer us straight back to the top, Only 2 things worry me will we be able to keep him and the will we be able to haang on to the loanees, time will tell, but for the moment it is a great time to be a bear
Question if wee sell one of the loanees do we get a cut of the money .
