We wouldn’t pretend to be a manager, nor are we a keyboard manager here on Ibrox Noise, but equally, like any other Rangers fan or group, we have our opinions, and we must admit we’d love to see Dujon Sterling back in midfield where we believe he can do the most damage.

If there was one shining standout at Parkhead, it was Sterling, and while Lundstram and Ridvan both also had strong matches, since then the former Chelsea man has been rotated around the squad and rarely played since in that central slot.

The signing of Diomande has certainly affected this, with the ex-Nordsjælland man slowly securing that position.

But we can’t help feeling he’s not quite ready for the absolute blood and thunder of an Old Firm, or for the pace of it, especially given the international tug of war that’s going on in his head as well.

Whereas Sterling stomped all over the last one, despite the result.

The midfield is so important, and Rangers have Lundstram, Raskin, Diomande, Jack in theory and of course Sterling as options there.

Lunny will start, but who his partner is on the day will be massive.

We need strong, physical and quick – Sterling is all of these things, and we can’t help feeling he should be in the starting XI in midfield.

Celtic are unlikely to start Callum McGregor, but they might, and if he is named in their XI Sterling becomes even more important – we can’t see Dio getting the better of McGregor much, in all honesty.

But Sterling is extremely strong, and would prove a much tougher challenge for Celtic’s captain.

That all said, Philippe Clement is the manager, and he may feel Sterling is better deployed in the wide attacking midfield role he’s been occupying the past couple of months.

Mind you, he only just came back from injury so Clement might consider he’s not ready to start?

Either way, the starting XI for Sunday will be very interesting indeed.

  1. If Ridvans not fit, surely he plays lb. Borna’s proved time and time again he shouldn’t be near an old firm!
