Rangers must force Celtic into a big big mistake

Make no mistake, while Livi are in horrific form right now, the trip by Celtic over to the Tony Macaroni arena is one historical banana skin for the Parkhead side, and Rangers absolutely, critically must win v Hibs today to put pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ men before they take to the terrible plastic turf tomorrow.

Of course, the last time we said this, Rangers hosted Motherwell and did not have a good afternoon of it, before using a gigantic get out of jail card as Celtic slipped up themselves against Hearts.

We can’t rely on that kind of gift again.

Rangers simply have to win, to go (temporarily) two points clear and turn the screw on Celtic a little.

Because let’s be clear, Celtic’s record v Livi isn’t great, they have dropped points against this side in recent seasons, albeit not for a long time, and Livi are something of a bogey side for them.

So on that dire surface which is more like a carpet than a pitch, they may just slip up.

Which is why Rangers need to push them to errors.

But it won’t be easy – Hibs were a tough nut at Easter Road to crack, and they’re fighting for a top 6 slot, currently holding that position as things stand.

And Rangers simply cannot drop points.

Both sides will be blood and thunder for this one, we both need the points as badly as each other and Hibs are in a speck of good form, having had an uplift since Lee Johnson left.

As for Rangers, a few players available again, but not as starters we doubt, and hopefully getting back to winning ways after a sticky period of just one victory in the last four.

Anything less than 3 points today doesn’t bear thinking about.
