One win in four – Rangers need to steady the ship v Dundee
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - MARCH 14: Philippe Clement, Manager of Rangers, looks on prior to the UEFA Europa League 2023/24 round of 16 second leg match between Rangers FC and SL Benfica at Ibrox Stadium on March 14, 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)

Taken in isolation, Rangers’ record, suddenly, in all competitions, is not quite at the height it was. Just one win in the last four matches, and it was against a side down to 9 men.

The Motherwell loss was a big bloody nose, and in truth, Rangers haven’t yet properly recovered from that.

This is why Sunday’s trip to Dens Park to face Dundee takes on gigantic significance – we’re down a glut of major players, we’re suddenly in rather poor form with two losses in four matches, and we need to get back on track quickly.

Of course, two of those bad results were against the mighty Benfica, but one of them was against modest Motherwell, so it balances itself out.

Rangers now only have domestic to concentrate on, and their opponents for the title Celtic are hardly great shakes this campaign at all.

Belgian gaffer Philippe Clement has been a revelation, but he will badly want to steady the slightly wobbling ship, because our last SPL outing was a horror, and we need to put that right.

Unfortunately it’s off the back of his worst night as Rangers manager, so we need very quickly to get over Thursday evening and adjust to domestic affairs as soon as we can.

Dundee will be no mugs. They’re 6th and haven’t lost at home since Hearts got all 3 points early last month. That was a late Shankland winner.

So Rangers can prepare for a dog fight from a side who are eager to be in the top 6 for the split.

And it’s essential we get back to winning ways.

We’re decimated for injuries, even if we have a few coming back now, we still sit very short of a full squad, and Dundee will smell blood.

The results lately have taken a sharp downturn, after Clement’s imperious start, there’s just been a few duff displays and loss of momentum of late.

So important we put that right this weekend.
