Rangers have been hit with another injury after rising star Zak Lovelace had to be withdrawn for Rangers’ B team v Antwerp in today’s defeat to the Belgian giants’ U21s.
In what continues to be yet more injury issues, the striker had to be replaced on 18 minutes after receiving treatment on the continent for an as yet unspecified injury.
Hot on the heels of Ibrox Noise explaining Rangers’ injury crisis is maybe easing a bit, with ‘just’ 6 senior players now out injured, while Lovelace isn’t quite banging on the door of the first team just yet, his injury is most certainly unwanted and in a very sparse position for the senior side.
As things stand, it is only Fabio Silva and Cyriel Dessers available in that position, with the ability to call on Lovelace now hanging in the balance should Rangers get any horribly-unwanted injuries in that slot.
Lovelace is yet to really make his mark on the seniors, of course, with just a couple of outings earlier this season before he disappeared entirely back into the B team.
There are some hopes for the boy and he is only 18, but there’s also a sense that he should have been in more squads than he has been, and he needs to step up a bit to really become a fixture in some capacity.
But it doesn’t help when the lad sustains an injury, and obviously we hope it’s not serious.
That said, it had him coming off on 18 minutes and that wouldn’t be done lightly.
We will learn in due course how serious this is and if we’re now literally down to just two strikers all in.
