Ibrox Noise was very amused by just how unfair a large portion of Rangers fans actually are, after we congratulated Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers for his goal for his country recently.

The response, by and large, was derisory, mocking him and suggesting maybe he could do this for his club too.

Despite the fact Ibrox Noise has demonstrated that Dessers is actually a lot more clinical than Lawrence Shankland, who these fans pine for, the scoffing at him really doesn’t have a major basis in fact.

His career record reads 127 goals in 323 appearances, a little under one in two. 47 assists.

Rangers – 23 goals and assists in 43.

Feyenoord – 24 goals and assists in 41.

Heracles – 24 goals and assists in 29.

Utrecht – 26 goals and assists in 56.

Cremonese – 9 goals and assists in 29.

Genk – 17 goals and assists in 43.

Breda – 42 goals and assists in 40.

In short, the guy is a career scorer and assister. And it’s continued at Rangers.

Yet he scores for his country and Rangers fans mock him as not doing that enough at Rangers, while the same fans want Shankland who we’ve demonstrated is a lot more wasteful than Dessers.

Now, this isn’t us saying Shankland is rubbish – far from it. What we’re saying is the flack Dessers gets just isn’t fair.

Yes, Dessers is ungainly, and he’s not obviously clinical, missing a lot of chances, but to degrade the second-most prolific goal contributor at the club behind James Tavernier really makes little sense.

He did get some love a couple of months ago, but it takes a few dry matches and our club’s supporters turn quickly.

We suppose that is the cost of the demands of the Rangers fan.

And we actually wouldn’t change a bit of it.
