Unfortunately, some Rangers fans are getting their hopes up that today’s story about on-loan Sam Lammers is true and the Ibrox side is to sell the striker to Twente in the summer for £2.5M.

We say ‘unfortunately’ because this story originated in the Scottish s*n and other Scottish outlets are picking it up claiming it came from Dutch reports.

And it’s true that some Dutch outlets are indeed reporting it, but they are, sadly, quoting the s*n story, including Twente-based publications.

In short, the s*n have latched onto Twente’s reported interest from last summer, and the fact Lammers just faced them for Utrecht two days ago, and running with the financial troubles Utrecht are widely known to have, have 2+2=5 concluded that Twente are back in for him and will sign for £2.5M.

And the Dutch press, seeing this story, have nicked it.

So, we have no idea if there’s any real interest in Lammers from any Eredivisie side, and we strongly, sadly, urge a huge pinch of salt over any story originating in the s*n, despite it being potentially very good news for Rangers.

Lammers’ stats there? 3 assists and a goal in 6, it is, admittedly, very, very good, and means 4 goal contributions in 6. Hard to argue with that.

He absolutely didn’t suit Scotland, or the pressure of Rangers, especially, the pressure of Rangers, and that pressure is rather non-existent by comparison in Utrecht.

Lammers should have stayed in Holland, he suits that league, not Scotland, Italy, or Germany, and he’s at his best when he’s playing there.

His exit will surely be permanent this summer, be it to Utrecht, Twente or anyone else.

Because lord it did not work for him here.
