He’s everyone’s favourite now! Cyriel Dessers, with his third goal in three matches, has really started to win fans over, with Rangers supporters finally giving him praise and not just cutting him reluctant slack.

Ibrox Noise has been on record all season as conceding the ex-Feyenoord striker isn’t the most smooth, polished or composed striker, being even a speck cumbersome, but his numbers prove him to be the most prolific goal contributor at Ibrox aside James Tavernier, ever since Philippe Clement came in.

13 goals and assists in 18 appearances since the new boss arrived is an almost untouchable record, just Tavernier since the Belgian’s arrival has more.

And with another goal against Stephen Robinson’s very tricky St Mirren side, Dessers actually earned a bit of fan praise and chanting/songs.

Even one week ago that would have been unthinkable – but it shows how a bit of confidence and a couple of goals can sway an entire fanbase into giving you the credit you deserve, rather than just the one fan site maybe called Ibrox Noise trying to persuade the masses of your merits.

It seems now that Dessers is finally getting the kudos from fans that he deserves.

He has said the odd silly thing, and did himself no favours before the Old Firm, but few players have been as unpopular as the Nigeria man (bet they wish they’d picked him now) this season at Ibrox.

The only one that was, now plies his trade in Holland.

And he was basically chased out and is now thriving elsewhere.

Give Dessers credit – the boy has dug his heels in, stuck with the club, the environment, and instead of giving up, he’s now starting to show his merits and winning the fans over.

All a Rangers 9 has to do is score. Dessers is doing that on top of everything else he’s been doing.

And the club’s supporters have finally, deep into January, started accepting him.
