We have to say, we’re into the 24th of January now and with just 7 days left until the window shuts, the lack of a striker arriving at Rangers, aside Fabio Silva, suggests none are coming in.
We have no leads, no apparent talks, and no number 9 linked.
The entire interest over Lawrence Shankland appears to be social media-driven, with ITK sources claiming this that and the next, but with the window shutting a week on Thursday, time is absolutely running out to add a new hitman.
And in truth, what Philippe Clement said at his presser hinted that he’s happy with what he has.
He bigged up new recruit Fabio Silva, and praised Cyriel Dessers as being in a good place.
Is it Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar? Probably not. Fans aren’t terribly thrilled with either of them – Silva has a lot of work to impress supporters, while Dessers is unable to.
In short, supporters don’t relate to either striker and don’t have a 9 they can trust.
Clement also alluded that he won’t be happy if no further signings in general are made, but when he suggested a new striker was coming in in January to replace Danilo, clearly that appears to have been Silva.
The Shankland stuff fades ever more and no club source has ever suggested any official interest or overtures in that direction at all.
The closest we got was an alleged broadcast report from Mark Benstead, claimed by one single other website, that the board was divided over Shankland. We’ve seen no one else back this quote up as having happened.
Aside that, nothing. Not a word.
Rangers won’t comment on Shankland, the fan partners don’t say a word either.
It just appears to be a non-happening thing and that goes for getting a further striker.
No one is being linked, and unless someone comes out of the woodwork inside the next few days, Rangers will go the rest of the season with Dessers and Silva.
It’s not the artillery we hoped for, in truth.
