Rangers have formally pulled out of any interest in Belgium’s Michy Batshuayi after his wages were deemed too high and the Fenerbahce striker elected to pursue opportunities in the Premier League or Saudi Arabia, while Rangers, Philippe Clement in particular, found his professionalism questionable.

The 30-year-old striker, out of favour in Turkey due to bad attitude and current poor form, was a genuine target for Rangers manager Clement, who felt a hitman with his clear sporting pedigree would enhance Rangers significantly if a deal could be done.

There was contact between both parties, but the Belgian forward quickly priced himself out of a deal and there will be no massive signing for Rangers in the form of the former Chelsea hitman.

We can probably mention now that there’s a very good reason Batshuayi hasn’t made the top of the game when he was clearly capable – he’s extremely unprofessional.

All the talent in the world but couldn’t get starts for Chelsea, and this season has been notably poor in Turkey, only managing his fourth goal in 12 in a 7-1 rout on Wednesday as a second half sub.

His club have been clear in statements that he’s extremely unprofessional, and that his attitude is why he’s on the bench and clearly Clement noticed this fast and pulled out of any transaction involving him.

Sky Sports did indeed confirm our sources’ info that Michy was on Rangers’ list of targets, and he was interested in the club, but it didn’t go any further than a chat. Rangers fan site Heart & Hand have also dismissed the story now.

These kinds of players are infuriating. Mario Balotelli is a big example – a talented striker who could score for fun but was more interested in creating havoc than football memories.

So Rangers’ search for another striker goes on and Michy can just rot away wherever he chooses to waste his career in hereafter.
