Ibrox Noise sources have confirmed Rangers have indeed made an enquiry about wantaway Fenerbahce and former Ibrox winger Ryan Kent, after the left-sided attacker made it clear his only desire is either returning to Rangers or getting a lucrative gig in the Premier League.

Philippe Clement is desperately short on fit and available left wingers, and Kent’s shocker of a spell in Turkey hasn’t put the Belgian boss off him – Europe is well aware of Kent’s quality in the right circumstances, Borussia Dortmund, Antwerp, Rapid and Celtic alone can testify to that.

Clement is also not stupid – he knows Kent from the Antwerp cameo, and he knows a player.

So is Kent returning?

The conditions are right, we’ll say that. It’s halfway through the window and Rangers’ work so far as been extremely poor, and with Abdallah Sima’s AFCON almost underway, there are basically no options on the left for when action resumes next weekend.

The chance of Kent getting his PL move are remote, given his current stock is low, but it remains an ambition.

As most readers, who probably disagree, will be aware, Ibrox Noise has much more time for Kent than the majority of fans – we believe him to be a much better player than supporters remember, and we certainly far from hate the boy.

But if he did come back he’d have to win the supporters over again, because while fans will not boo him at Ibrox, he will have to put in major performances for the faithful to forget about what they believe he put in last season.

But fans are also fickle, a couple of good displays and hey presto, he’s the toast of Govan again.

We’ll see in time if this one materialises.
