Rangers fans are today uncorking the bubbly after Parkhead agent and man responsible for Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, Ben Davies and Danilo John Park finally left the Ibrox building.
Following years of stellar work for Celtic, securing them Virgil van Dijk, Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama, Park came to Rangers and brought in Aaron Ramsey, Amad Diallo, James Sands and Dessers to name just four of the absolutely abysmal and expensive additions Agent Park ruined Rangers with.
John Park was at Rangers from summer 22, and in that time the signings successes can be written on a postage stamp.
Tillman, Colak, Ridvan, Matondo, Dessers, Lammers, Dowell, Butland, Cantwell, Raskin, and a bunch more have come in over the past 18 months, and we’d say, definitively, that only Butland can be truly described as a success.
A lot of maybes in there, true, and the unique case of Colak, but in general, Park’s record was diabolical for both Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale.
And in truth, Rangers knew this, but for some reason didn’t seem to want to fire the man, instead appointing Nils Koppen in a passive-aggressive statement to Park that he was surplus now.
Koppen is Park’s replacement, albeit in a different job title, and the former Celtic scout, a raging success over there, couldn’t have done more to undermine Rangers than he has.
And who appointed him?
Stewart Robertson, in one of his many, many, many gaffes as Rangers Managing Director.
John Park, Robertson, Ross Wilson – the reason Rangers have so many issues these days is the damage the wrong people in power did at Ibrox, with some dreadful appointment decisions which have left such a mess.
To bring in a dyed-in-the-wool Celtic man as Rangers’ chief scout was the kind of decision Robertson et al made which only follows on from Pedro as manager.
Thankfully these fools are all gone now, not that the current board is perfect.
But we can’t help feeling the current crop is just a fraction better than what went before.
