Whisper it, Cyriel Dessers is just starting to win a few Rangers fans over.

Following yet another assist against Motherwell, his tally for the last two matches reads two assists and a goal.

In anyone’s language these are winning stats, and his numbers overall for Rangers are completely respectable.

Indeed, under Philippe Clement, Cyriel Dessers nails:

6 goals in 13, and 3 assists. That’s a £6M forward right there, and those numbers mostly match the outlay.

Overall?

9 goals in 28 (not really good enough buuut…) with 6 assists taking him to 14 goals or assists in those 28 matches.

That’s 50%. One in two.

For all Dessers’ unpopularity, his vein of form under Philippe Clement has been one of the many success stories with the Belgian at our helm.

Dessers, more than most, is starting to truly reap the benefit of Clement’s management, racking up the second most goal contributions of anyone (9 in 13)since the Belgian arrived, behind only captain James Tavernier (14 in 16) and joint with Abdallah Sima (9 in 16) who’s had three more matches.

But that Dessers is now among Rangers’ number one goal contributors the fans simply have to get behind him.

It’s a stretch to say the lad has been an outright revelation under Clement, but when he’s approaching Tav’s goals and pushing him for assists too, you have to give him full credit.

Even under Mick Beale he wasn’t a failure – 6 goals/assists in 13 remains just under that 50% contribution level, which he’s increased significantly under Clement.

Dessers is now Rangers’ number one outright striker by right – the club will need more bodies next month, and one of them may or may not be Lawrence Shankland, but Dessers is now showing a lot of fans he is not a waste of space.

But he’ll never win over the lot.
