Following yet another stunning goal for Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, Rangers fans for the absolute majority are clear – they want the hitman at Ibrox next month.

In an Ibrox Noise poll, carried out before the striker’s latest headline-grabber, of 4400 votes and counting, 3303 wanted Shankland, while 76 wanted Groningen’s Kevin van Veen instead.

568 wanted both of the forwards, while just 430 wanted neither of them.

It’s overwhelmingly clear that the bulk of Rangers supporters absolutely would sign Lawrence Shankland if a deal can be done.

The favour towards Shankland was clear before he even scored last night, but his latest effort saw yet more fans vote for him to be signed next month.

What is the situation?

We do understand enquiries have been made, and Hearts coach Steven Naismith’s own language was a massive u-turn on chairman Joe Savage’s claims only a couple of weeks ago at their AGM that Shankland pretty much wasn’t for sale and it would take an excessive bid to change that.

Naismith’s comments recently suggest they are now resigned to losing their captain, while Shankland’s own contribution in the media didn’t do a lot to affirm he wants to remain at Tynecastle.

It seems all the pieces are in place, and if Rangers can agree a fee with the Tynecastle side Philippe Clement will get his man, the Rangers fans will get the player they’ve wanted for some time, and Shankland himself will get the dream move he’s craved his whole career.

It just remains now to see if the numbers and paperwork can be completed.
