Philippe Clement begins life properly as Rangers manager tomorrow when Hibernian come to Ibrox on the back of indifferent form on their own part, as the Belgian seeks to open his Rangers account and give the fans cause for optimism.

So what XI might he go with?

Ibrox Noise is going to have a little stab in the dark at predicting Philippe Clement’s first-ever Rangers XI.

Butland. Surely he is not going to change Butland.

Back four we think is going to stay the same. Tavernier, Goldson, Davies and Barisic.

This will, we’re sure, see fans foaming at the mouth in rage, but the only way this manager can suss out who’s not good enough is by watching them in a match environment.

Generally Clement uses 4-3-3 but he’s extremely adaptable and might switch that up depending on the players he has fit. And with that in mind, midfield is likely to remain much the same as normal. Lundstram will keep his place, although Jack is unfit but Raskin will probably start. And there’s a slim chance Cantwell might be fit in time too given he’s back in training.

Up front?

Danilo is back in training, and there’s been a lot of talk in the press about Dessers, while Sima has now returned from international duty. Lammers is the butt of everyone’s joke, and there’s Scott Wright and Kemar Roofe too. In short, there are options here. Sadly, not including Matondo.

So what do we think for Clement’s debut XI?

Butland; Tavernier, Goldson, Davies, Barisic; Lundstram, Raskin, Cantwell; Sima, Danilo, Dessers.

Can you sense there’s a bit of ‘don’t have a clue’ about this XI?

We do not know the shape of this manager yet, we don’t know how to assess the picture he’s going to paint or the ‘story’ (as he likes to put it) that he’s going to tell, so it really is just mega guesswork at this point.

Which is half the fun, right?
